CABL Family Support Services

We provide a range of support to families with dependent children who are having trouble managing as a result of internal or external stresses of life.

Our family support service is a preventative service with a focus on supporting families, strengthening and building on family members’ existing skills. Family services focus on encouraging and developing positive relationships within families and promoting environments which value, nurture and protect children.

Types of services

Inner West Family Support Service is a free service for families caring for children and young people, living in the council areas of Ashfield, Burwood, City of Canada Bay and Strathfield.

CABL Family Support Services can offer:

  • Advocacy and referral – where families may need guidance, support or increased confidence in accessing services
  • Group programs – connecting with others to develop skills, with a focus on social and emotional wellbeing in parenting including self-esteem, communication, relationships, play skills for parents and children, money management and household management
  • Support groups where participants share experiences with others in similar situations – these are specialised therapeutic programs, where participants have a safe space to share their experiences. An example is CABL’s ‘After the storm,’ for women who have experienced domestic or family violence
  • Access to interpreters
  • Activities and community events that help family members to get to know other people, to decrease social isolation and to build supportive networks within communities
  • Trauma-informed, culturally aware, client-centred case management- to support families (individually and as a unit) to access the skills, confidence and tools to be healthy and strong
